Updated: Aug 2, 2021

Some people are reluctant to consume miso due to its sodium level. However, if you look into the amount that you actually consume on a daily basis, you might change your mind.

Sodium recommended amount

Under 2,300mg, but an idle limit is no more than 1,500mg (per day for adult)

One bowl of soybean miso soup per person

15g → About 510mg sodium, which is equivalent to 1/4 teaspoon salt

♦ About 30% intake sodium from Miso is not relevant to high blood pressure.

Intake sodium from Miso is easily excreted, and has an effect on extending artery that eventually prevent high blood pressure.

※ Potassium(K)

‧ Miso is normally consumed with other ingredients that contains high in potassium, such as spinach, hijiki and wakame.

Potassium stabilizes blood pressure by preventing sodium from being reabsorbed by the kidney, and promoting excretion.
